Burn Hazard from Steam

Many wildlife rehabilitators now use steam sterilisers to sterilise feeding bottles, teats etc. caution should be used at all times when they are in use.

Oven mitts should be used when handling the steam filled container, always lift the lid at an angle away from your body or arm.

If you receive a scald you should firstly analyse the severity of the burn, for a mild burn rinse the affected area under cool water, if the burn is large (bigger than your palm) or you believe it to be more severe than a mild burn, do not run the burn under cold water as this may cause the body to go into shock, seek medical advice as soon as possible.
